Incentive for your best hostesses

Wouldn’t it be great if you had a ready supply of people you could call on any time to book a party with you – and wouldn’t it be even better if you knew that the chances of the party being a good one were very high?

Here’s an idea that worked spectacularly well for me, resulting in very good relationships with my hostesses, a massive boost in business and the removal of the cringe factor when on the phone trying to get bookings. And the added bonus was that is was heaps of fun!

How do you keep it all organized?

I struggle with organization.  I've got tons of great books (somewhere) on the topic...  Here's what sorta works for me:

I have 1 2 inch 3-ring binder that has sheet protectors in it.  In this I keep:
  • Cruise brochure in the front pocket (inspiration!)The first page is "What are Jamberry Nails?" (in case some one picks it up randomly)
  • Then my kudos - notes from upline, downline, customers or hostesses, print outs of newsletter recognition, etc. (This helps for recruiting, it reinforces what kind of leader I am and if I appreciate recognition, I'm more likely to give it!)

Fundraisers with Jamberry Nails

updated 9/30/17

How does it work?
Jamberry will donate 10% of QV to the organization. The check must be made to an organization, not an individual.  The donation is made INSTEAD OF host rewards.

On the party tab in your workstation, open a new party, then mark it as a fundraiser. Enter the organization's information, exactly as the check should be addressed and mailed. Orders can be online or collected in person. When the fundraiser party is closed, Jamberry will cut a check and mail it directly to the organization.  They send out checks once a week on Friday for the fundraisers that closed in the previous week.

Here is what I do to help increase sales:

This is my table set up for a vendor event.  I use a 6-Foot folding table , 6 ft. stretch tablecloth in black, and the Jamberry table runner (available in the Jamberry Workstation)

Networking Successfully in Social Media

Jamberry has a core principle to "give more than you take."  This is a valuable mantra for everyday life too!  It is even more valuable when you are trying to grow your business on social media.

I've been in direct sales for 15 years.  When I first started, there was no Facebook, Myspace or Twitter.  Just knocking on doors and calling people.  I suppose that helped lay a groundwork for being more successful on social media.  I would never knock on someone's door and then as soon as they answered say

Be Intentional! Be Successful!

Without any question, the biggest challenge for us today is getting bookings. The bookings are still out there, we just need to use different verbiage and resources to get them!

Things that are stopping us:
  1. Using the wrong tools to get the bookings.
  2. Using the wrong verbiage.
  3. Making booking contacts when we can squeeze them in.
How to fix it:

Are you feeling like a Super Hero today?

SUBJECT: Are you feeling like a Super Hero today?
We often say that an objection is simply a request for more information. However, what would happen if YOU were the one gathering more information rather than providing a barrage of answers?
Most of us generally get the same objections when discussing the business opportunity.
“I don't have enough time…” or “I'm too busy…”
“I'm not a sales person…”
“I can't talk in front of people…”
“I don't have enough money…”
“I don't know enough people…”
Sound familiar?

Build your Business in December

  1. Call past contacts (not just customers).  Tell them that with the buy 3 get 1 free special and 10% off there has never been a better time to get Jamberry.  That brings the cost of the sheets down to $10.13 each!  If you can, offer free shipping (combine all the orders and have them shipped to you, then mail them out – make your cut off date a little earlier, the free shipping could be an incentive for orders before December 8th) (US dates)
  2. You have a product or service that is perfect for holiday gifts!

Work Smarter NOT Harder: using auto-responders for hostess coaching

My mantra (all the time, every day!) is “Smarter not Harder”.  I pretty much just try to pay very close attention to what I avoid doing and why, and then I try to solve that barrier. I worked for a time management consulting company for many years as an administrative assistant, I learned a lot from all that stuff I typed!

That means that if it can be automated, streamlined or eliminated, I do it. If it is not a “business building activity” I try to avoid it. If it is something that has to be repeated (consistency and follow through are my arch nemesis) then I find a way to make technology my slave!   See the example below:

  • One of the things that was falling through the cracks was hostess coaching.  I had really good intentions about calling my hostesses.  I also have 2 small children at home during the day, and that number grows when school lets out! (Barrier: Me, my memory, time/quiet to call)

Work Smarter NOT Harder: Mailing Packages

My mantra (all the time, every day!) is “Smarter not Harder”.  I pretty much just try to pay very close attention to what I avoid doing and why, and then I try to solve that barrier. I worked for a time management consulting company for many years as an administrative assistant, I learned a lot from all that stuff I typed!

That means that if it can be automated, streamlined or eliminated, I do it. If it is not a “business building activity” I try to avoid it. If it is something that has to be repeated (consistency and follow through are my arch nemesis) then I find a way to make technology my slave!

Mailing packages is a chore for me. It's not HARD, it's time consuming. And boring. And I'd rather do something exciting and productive!

Work Smarter NOT Harder: Saving Electronic Files

My mantra (all the time, every day!) is “Smarter not Harder”.  I pretty much just try to pay very close attention to what I avoid doing and why, and then I try to solve that barrier. I worked for a time management consulting company for many years as an administrative assistant, I learned a lot from all that stuff I typed!

That means that if it can be automated, streamlined or eliminated, I do it. If it is not a “business building activity” I try to avoid it. If it is something that has to be repeated (consistency and follow through are my arch nemesis) then I find a way to make technology my slave!

Every business needs to have a way to store and retrieve information.  In Direct Sales, we have customer files, hostess files, team member files, prospective customer files, prospective hostess files, prospective team member files... and then we have training materials, product photos, recognition letters, the list is long and can be overwhelming.

Work Smarter NOT Harder: Managing Time Online & Avoiding Information Overload

My mantra (all the time, every day!) is “Smarter not Harder”.  I pretty much just try to pay very close attention to what I avoid doing and why, and then I try to solve that barrier. I worked for a time management consulting company for many years as an administrative assistant, I learned a lot from all that stuff I typed!

That means that if it can be automated, streamlined or eliminated, I do it. If it is not a “business building activity” I try to avoid it. If it is something that has to be repeated (consistency and follow through are my arch nemesis) then I find a way to make technology my slave!

When I log into the internet, it is really easy to get lost!  I don't mean that I don't know where I am, I mean I forget what I'm supposed to be doing!  You know how it goes - you are going to log in and look at email.  So you open up your browser and it comes up with the default home page.  This usually has news stories on it.  Even though I couldn't really care less about the Kardashians... I still click to see.  I didn't come here to watch the latest viral video sensation... but I still watch it.  I don't "need" to know the due date of the Royal Baby... but I'm tempted!

Work Smarter NOT Harder: Mailing Party Postcard Invitations & Reminders

My mantra (all the time, every day!) is “Smarter not Harder”.  I pretty much just try to pay very close attention to what I avoid doing and why, and then I try to solve that barrier. I worked for a time management consulting company for many years as an administrative assistant, I learned a lot from all that stuff I typed!

That means that if it can be automated, streamlined or eliminated, I do it.  If it is not a “business building activity” I try to avoid it.  If it is something that has to be repeated (consistency and follow through are my arch nemesis) then I find a way to make technology my slave!

Most Direct Sales companies offer postcard invitations or reminders for in-home parties.  If you've gotten a hostess packet from your consultant, you probably had a stack of pretty postcard invitations and the instruction to fill them out and mail them to your friends.  If you actually did this - you deserve a gold star for sure!  I never did it.  Which is one reason I didn't have very good turn out at my home parties!

Work Smarter NOT Harder: Taming the To-Do List

My mantra (all the time, every day!) is “Smarter not Harder”.  I pretty much just try to pay very close attention to what I avoid doing and why, and then I try to solve that barrier. I worked for a time management consulting company for many years as an administrative assistant, I learned a lot from all that stuff I typed!

That means that if it can be automated, streamlined or eliminated, I do it.  If it is not a “business building activity” I try to avoid it.  If it is something that has to be repeated (consistency and follow through are my arch nemesis) then I find a way to make technology my slave!

I like lists.  A lot.  I make really pretty lists.  They are serious works of art.  If I only had staff to actually DO all the things on my lists...

Work Smarter NOT Harder: How do you do it all?

My mantra (all the time, every day!) is “Smarter not Harder”.  I pretty much just try to pay very close attention to what I avoid doing and why, and then I try to solve that barrier. I worked for a time management consulting company for many years as an administrative assistant, I learned a lot from all that stuff I typed!

People ask me all the time "How do you do it?  You have so many kids, an immune deficiency that makes you tired and sore, your blog, successful businesses... how do you do it all?"

Jamberry Conference #JamCon2013 - sort of an installment of "Working Smarter NOT Harder in your Direct Sales Business"

I can't believe that I leave for Salt Lake City THIS WEEK!  All the planning and cramming is SOOO worth it!

Last year was the first ever conference for Jamberry.  The excitement was palpable.  I went, knowing no one!  I had never even met my upline sponsor in "real life" - only on Facebook!  From the moment my husband dropped me off at the airport...  (by. my. self. as. in. no. children.) I was practically giddy.  I couldn't stop smiling!  I wore my sparkly Jamberry T-shirt, had pink highlights and carried plenty of brochures and business cards!  I chatted up many ladies, and met up with another Jamberry gal that was flying out at the same time (a pleasant coincidence!)

Working Smarter NOT Harder: Using Stickers (get a 25% off coupon!)

Everyone loves stickers!  From the time I was little, I was just in love with stickers.  Scratch 'n' sniff, puffy ones, the ones you color yourself...  Fast forward a few years and I was obsessed with making photo albums and memory books with stickers!  Blink and I was making Creative Memories albums for my own kids - with an impressive collection of stickers :)

Okay, What Now?

Okay, What Now?
Originally posted Monday, October 01, 2012 by Marilyn MacKenzie
As you probably realize, the home party business is mostly a woman’s business. That’s not to say that men don’t do well in the business. They do. I once met a man who was a top seller for Avon. In my own sales group years ago, there was a gentleman whose average party was over $400 while the rest of the district had average party sales of only $285. His secret? He could tease with the woman at the party in an entirely different way than the women sales reps. could. Still, it remains a business of interest mostly to women. And sales, at least at parties held in the home, are usually to women as well. (One noted exception to this is in the cookware line. Typically, men have sold more cookware, although they often did that one-on-one and not to groups of women or couples.)

Let’s say there are two people who want to grow a garden:

Who is going to have the easier time growing their garden?

Developing Systems—The Foundation of Your Brand

Dana Susan Beasley, Branding for Success bloggerdana-systemsMany years ago, after I graduated from college, I was forced to become a secretary due to the grim job outlook at that time. I rankled at this idea for a long time. Frankly, administrative work is boring to me. I’d much rather be thinking of ideas or creating a product.
But now that I’m a business owner, I realize the importance of having administrative skills. And even more so since my husband just started his business and I am assisting him!
I have discovered that developing systems is the best way to handle administrative work. It not only helps with my sense of boredom, it helps me be more efficient so I have time to do what I really love!

When you think about asking someone to join you in the business – where are you, mentally?

Is this something you are doing to someone or for someone?
Are you bothering/pestering/pushing or are you inviting?
Are you focused on your goals or on her needs?

If your paradigm is in need of a shift – let’s look at things a little differently.

The “R” word - I think you know what I'm talking about - Recruiting

However you describe it, we are talking about building a team and it is something that some consultants avoid when they first join the business themselves. In fact, some consultants never do begin to build a team. More often than not, those consultants do not last long in the business.

Let me tell you a story...

chalkboard

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to get someone’s attention by saying “Let me tell you a little story…” Even if you’re sitting in a restaurant and you overhear someone in the next booth say that to someone else, aren't you straining to listen? Sure you are! Telling your story at the beginning of your party will help engage your guests in the same way. It’s simple to create this. Answer the following questions and then weave them together into a short story that your audience can relate to.

So, it's payday...

Consider carefully how you will spend your money. How much will you reinvest into your business? Will you order business cards? Invest in a tablecloth? A banner? Add a little inventory? Maybe purchase some stamps so that you have them on-hand for mailing thank you cards and reminder postcards? Maybe you'll get paper and ink for your printer? Keep you receipts; these are business expenses and can be counted in next year's taxes

Will you pay for some marketing or advertising? A listing on a website, a blog sponsorship, an ad in the local highschool yearbook... Replenish your business supplies, catalogs, brochures, samples, postcards...

Facebook Group Messages. Just Don't...

Don't use "group messages" to promote your business or mass message customers!

Here is my response on a heated thread discussing this very topic today:

"In my experience, unsolicited group messages are ALWAYS a bad idea. It's one thing to do a group message to plan an event after you've talked about it over FB or coffee. It's something else to send a message to 100+ people at a time. Even if people are interested in the subject, they almost ALWAYS get pissed off by their notifications "blowing up", then the questions from people who don't understand why they are getting messages from people they don't know. Then the "how can I get removed" and the responses, then the notifications that so and so left the conversation. 1 group message to 100 people can easily turn into 500 notifications. Many people get notices by email or text. This pisses people off.

Having said that - the majority of the time that someone uses a group message, they have NEVER been part of one before, so they have no idea what to expect! I've never been included in one that was intended to be rude or insensitive, it just sometimes seems that way."

Booking parties - it's all in the attitude!

SUBJECT:  HELP!  with TEAM motivation

Angela writes...
Help! I'm new to your site so I'm looking forward to learning ideas on how to help us motivate our teams during this economy when so many are scare to book parties b/c they "don't want to do that to their friends:?

Dear Angela,
WELCOME to The Success Factory and THANK YOU for your great question.
The objection that you mention in your question is as old as party plan.   My assumption is that you (and your team) are fearful that people feel as though inviting people to a Home Party is some kind of imposition.

A Simple Tool for Dealing With Difficult People

Women-arm-wrestleSometimes being a coach sucks. Let me explain. I really hate confrontation. I'm not good at it. It affects every part of my physical and emotional self. In the past week, I've twice found myself on the receiving end of some pretty unhappy energy (and that's putting it mildly). In both situations, the event that was actually causing the frustration in the other person wasn't my fault and there was nothing I could do to change it. Unfortunately for me, even the knowledge of that fact didn't stop the frustration with me. Probably because I was the only (or the most convenient) target at the time.

Develop Your Persuasion and Selling Skills to Increase Sales & Bookings

stockmarket - CopyHow would you like to have an abundance of people saying YES to you and your offers? Would it be worthwhile for you if you could have more people say YES to booking a party? What would happen if more guests purchased at every party? It’s not as hard to get people to say YES as you might think and actually you probably already know several ways to do so BUT you may not be implementing what you know or you might be missing one element that makes your presentation less effective.

I’ve been avidly studying and practicing persuasion and sales techniques for thirty years. I have sales programs and books from Zig Ziglar, Tom Hopkins, Dan Kennedy, and numerous others and I have to confess even though what I hear or read is often a repetition there are also some BIG AH-HA moments when I read something or hear something and I think to myself, WOW, where has this idea been all my life!

Use the Law of Averages to Increase Your Income

How many prospects do you need to talk to before you get one booking?
How many people do you need in attendance to have a $1,000 party?
How many parties do you average per week? Per month?
What’s your average party and how can you increase that amount?
How many bookings do you average per party? How can you increase this?
How many prospects do you need to interview before you get a recruit?
How many recruits do you need to sign before you get one new leader?
How many new leaders do you need before you get one great leader?

Many salespeople do not fully understand the importance of finding out their averages in order to improve in certain areas of their business. Tracking yourself in your business can help you find areas that you need to improve and then work on ways to improve your stats.

Stay in touch with your customers

I have created a variety of systems in my email provider's auto-responders to keep in touch with customers.  It took quite a bit of time and thought, and I'm proud of my work!

I recently was able to review The Client Angel and I think that it is a perfect solution for direct sales professionals.  You can use as much or as little of the functionality as you like.  At the least, it's an email database.  At it's greatest potential, you have full-fledged CRM (Customer Relationship Management)

10 Networking Steps That Build Solid Business Connections

Networking excites some and frightens others; it's not for everyone. Still, if you are avoiding networking because of discomfort, power through that uneasiness and make networking work for, not against you.
Here's how.
1) There are plenty of fish in the sea, it's true. But how will you stand out? For one, determine what you want out of the networking experience. Is it to let people know about you? Is it to learn about other people and what they do?
2) Have a goal in mind, including the number of cards you are going to give out and the number of meetings you plan to arrange, though you want to be sure to bring extra cards as well.
3) Look at businesses through different eyes. Do you know who is planning to attend? If so, do your homework. Who at the networking even might make a great joint venture partner? Use the time valuably to find out more about their company, its size, type, and location in relation to your company. If you don't know who will be there, still have questions in mind that will give you the information you need about the company you want to meet, and act as a referral for the businesses that don't meet your needs, but might meet someone else's that you know.
4) Look for a common denominator. What about you and your business is similar to the business or person you are meeting? What about each is different? How can you complement each other?
5) What immediate offer are you bringing to the event? Who gets it? Everyone? A specific types of business? Know before you go and have a clear-cut plan.
6) Everyone loves a story, but make it short and memorable. Mixers now sometimes have 5-minute restrictions (speed mixing/networking) for talking with people. What's a one-minute story you can tell that will help that person remember you, your business, and want to connect with you again?
7) Remember, networking is not the end-all to sales and marketing connections. It's the beginning. Be the first impression you want them to remember.
8) Networking success is all about follow up. Not every connection is about making a sale. Sometimes it's simply about making a connection and putting a face to a name and a name to a business.
9) Have fun. You're getting out. You're meeting new people. It freaks some people out, but fear projects negative energy and will actually keep people from approaching you! So, breathe deep, go in with the attitude of connecting with like-minded people and, as Larry-the-Cable-Guy says, "Git 'er done".
10) Track and measure your efforts and results. How many people did you connect with? How many cards did you distribute? How many did you collect? How many follow up calls/meetings did you set up? What was your offer? How many responses did you get? Track and measure everything.
Networking can "work" for you in many ways. It doesn't have to be about sales. Maybe you need to hire a bookkeeper or IT specialist. Networking gives you an opportunity to meet someone face-to-face, or lets someone else attending refer someone. Networking is about connection.
Above all else, go into networking--whether they're events, mixers, or even social media-- with a clear strategy in mind. It's the only way to measure whether the process has worked and to glean insights on how to improve your efforts.
So, now that you know the key networking strategies, what day and time work best for us to talk further? I look forward to connecting with you.

Name that Tune wrap game for online parties

From Tressa Dieball

I did a "name that tune" game last night that was a hit. I posted a wrap and told everyone to comment with what song came to mind when they saw the wrap. no right or wrong answers but I wouldn't allow the same song twice! I used Black Tie Affair and got great answers! It was fun!

Book a Full Fall with an Envelope Necklace

Book a Full Fall!

A Fun Way to get New Bookings

Idea shared by TheWahmConnection  (originally posted in the 10-8-12 Jamberry Nails Consultant Newsletter)

What you will need to get started: An envelope, stickers, markers or crayons, a hole puncher, and some string.

The first thing you'll want to do is to take your envelope and decorate it. Decorate it so that it really stands out. You can color it, draw, add stickers, or even stamp it. Use your imagination!
Once you are done decorating your envelope, you will want to punch one hole in each corner of the top of the envelope. Next, take a piece of string, long enough that you can tie it and it will hang from your neck.

Be a step ahead of the Holidays. Take advantage of the Fall selling season.

Remember, random acts gets you random results, so be intentional about booking a full Fall calendar. There is a saying in the Direct Sales industry, "persistence trumps talent".

Jump Start Your Fall

Jump Start Your Fall

Tips to have a solid Fall 2012 (from the Jamberry Nails Consultant Newsletter 9/17/2012)

Follow up with every customer and hostess. Get started by creating a contact list of your favorite people. Who would you most like to do a party for or work with in your business? Pick up the phone and call from your list! Tell them what a fabulous time it is to book a party or join your Jamberry Nails team. Invite them to be the first to show the new Fall designs or our new Mixing it Up nailwraps party. Let them know that you still have some great dates available and you'd love to do a party for them. They will earn free and discounted products of their choice!

I wanted to share something very inspirational with you! We have a team member who has had a terrible injury that stopped her in her tracks for 2 months. She was unable to come to conference and had not been able to work personally due to extreme pain and pain med side effects. Through all of this, she kept up with her team, encouraged and motivated them and came back to a promotion last month.

Out and About Marketing ideas

OUT & ABOUT MARKETING OF YOUR JAM BIZ!!!

Did you know you can find business everywhere you go? Here are some ideas:

  • Wear your jams. It seems so simple...but many don't. Wear them loud and proud!
  • Do you see a group of ladies lunching or chatting over coffee? Find a reason to compliment the group and quietly ask if they've ever heard of Jamberry. Offer them a catalog or Host/Join brochure. Keep this short and sweet

PUT ON YOUR BOOKING SHOES

PUT ON YOUR BOOKING SHOES!
Consultants should have at least a dozen reasons ready to roll out of their mouth on why someone should book a party for any given month.  To earn incentive trips, bonuses and more, you need to have a consistent party calendar. Hold at least two parties a week. By doubling your effort - you will double the payout.

WHY DO PEOPLE BOOK PARTIES?

20 Questions to ask yourself to explore why you may not be getting as many bookings as you’d like

20 Questions to ask yourself to explore why you may not be getting as many bookings as you’d like:
  • Do I keep my demo brief enough that I don’t overwhelm my guests?
  • If I were asked to do what I ask my Hosts to do, would I find the requests to be reasonable?
  • Do I mention our Host Rewards during my demo in a way that makes people want to book their own party?

MAGIC FORMULA for getting plenty of bookings

What is the MAGIC FORMULA for getting plenty of bookings?
FUN & INFORMATIVE demos!  A crowd of 20 people all laughing and carrying on… and no bookings = a little too much fun.  It was just a party and they didn’t go away feeling they learned anything.  A quiet crowd, fighting to stay awake = too much like a lecture, and not enough interactive fun.  Find a comfortable balance between the two and you’ll do great!

What can you do when you need to get started or re-started from scratch?  (When newly beginning your business, or coming back after a leave or a move, or just after a slow spell)

What can you do as a seasoned Consultant to generate MORE bookings?

What can you do as a seasoned Consultant to generate MORE bookings?
  • Plant the seed of hosting a party right at the beginning.  Belinda Ellsworth has a great party opening:  “Hi, my name is Belinda, and I’ve been with JN for several years.  How many of you have never been to a Jamberry Nails demo before?  Great – you’re going to have such a good time!  I’m going to teach you how to save time and money on getting the hottest look for your fingers and toes.  Your biggest challenge will be which designs to choose.  If your wish list is more than your budget will allow, talk to me about having your own party and getting many of your items for free.  Where is your favorite place to shop?
